Q&A Interview with Bura-chan Cosplay

Where are you from?

I'm from Poland!

When did you first start cosplaying?

It was in March 2014 during Intel Extreme Masters in Katowice, Poland.

How did you first become interested in cosplay?

My friend told me that it would be fun to have costume on during a gaming event, so I did some quick research on League of Legends champion skins. I choose the simplest one for me to make - Prom Queen Annie. After that first convention I became so fascinated about it that I never stopped! It's a fantastic hobby.

What are some characters you have cosplayed?

Many of them is from League of Legends - Janna, LeBlanc, Yasuo, Syndra and Karma. I'm also very into Love Live so I made various costumes of idols like Eli and Riko.

Who is your favorite LoL champion to play as? Who do you hate playing against the most?

I love to play as Jinx, Neeko, Janna and Illaoi. But I really hate to play against Yasuo, Zed, Fizz and Talon - they are so annoying to play against...

Any future plans for characters?

In the near future I'll make some more idol stuff, but I'm planning to focus on other anime positions than just Love Live. For example, Kohaku from Dr. Stone, Sistine from RokuAka and Elsa from Frozen 2.

What is your favorite part of cosplay?

Happiness! Sharing the joy of being a fictional character in the real world is something unbelievable. The smile on people faces when they see their favorite character or all those little children who think you're real a superhero or princess - it's priceless.

What about the hardest part?

For me it's motivation and finding time to make my own costumes. Since I live away from home and I cannot make costumes here, I became less active in cosplaying. It hurts, but it's the way of life. Besides that, I really hate making shoe and plushy patterns and working with fur.

Favorite movie? Video game? TV show? Band?

For movies it's not that easy to pick but let's say Zootopia and The Hunger Games. But choosing from anime I like Akagami no Shirayuki-hime the most. My favorite video games are League of Legends and the Tomb Raider series. I usually don't watch TV, but if I do, I really like to watch Hell's Kitchen or Master Chef. And my favorite band is Linkin Park.

I love Linkin Park! I was just having a discussion with a friend of mine about old school Linkin Park vs newer songs. What are some of your favorite songs of theirs? (I think mine is Papercut).

My first song ever was Numb but I started to love them after hearing Castle of Glass for the first time on the radio. Since then I have my top four favorite songs which are: New Divide, Roads Untraveled, Iridescent, and One More Light. But that doesn't mean that I don't like their older songs, too!

Tell me something about yourself that nobody knows.

I can eat almost everything with ketchup.

Have you ever tried Steak with Ketchup? I've heard a lot of people love that!

Just a few days ago! And yes - it was tasty. But they are much better with garlic butter!

Q&A Interview with Lux Avem

Where are you from?

Wake Forest, North Carolina and Staunton, Virginia (I bounce back and forth for college).

What are you majoring in?

Currently looking at majoring in Marketing and Communications with a focus on communications and possibly a minor in French.

When did you first start cosplaying?

I started cosplaying in 2016 at RTX.

How did you first become interested in cosplay?

I became interested when I saw Lux from League of Legends and was quite attached to her character.

What are some characters you have cosplayed?

Penny Polendina and Weiss Schnee from RWBY, Star Guardian Lux, Supergirl, and Panther from Persona 5.

Any future plans for characters?

Currently I am working on a Tamamo No Mae from Fate Grand Order.

What is your favorite part of cosplay?

My favorite part is the makeup and the community. I've made a lot of friends in the community and built up my own little family.

What about the hardest part?

The hardest part is the discrimination that happens in the community and balancing my own health and classes while working on costumes.

What do you mean by discrimination in the community?

There are a lot of issues on racism and body-shaming in the community that I have seen. PoC cosplayers don't get the same treatment as others and are often degraded by the community which includes calling them racial slurs. I also often see a lot of chubby cosplayers getting similarly poor treatment.

Are there any cosplayers that inspire you?

Honestly, I don't think I could count how many. Jessica Nigri and Meg Turney were two of the first ones for me, but now its a lot of my friends in the community like HelloBonehead and Sketching_Dinosaur.

What advice would you give to cosplayers just starting out?

Just be kind. Don't worry if your costume isn't as amazing as someone else's or if someone else is cosplaying the same thing "better" than you. Cosplay is only a competition if you're entering one. Just have fun and take care of yourself.

Favorite movie? Video game? TV show? Band?

My favorite movie is Expelled from Paradise. I'm a big fan of Child of Light. I love Criminal minds and I think I've seen almost every episode. And my favorite band currently is The Oh Hellos.

Tell me something about yourself that nobody knows.

Lux is only my Tag name.
