SuicideGirl (Hopeful) Gamer of the Month: Raven Raith

Why did you choose the name "Raven Raith"?

I chose the name, "Raven Raith" because Ravens and Crows are my favorite birds, and at the time not only were Ravens my favorite bird but it also suited my gothic look. Raith was a random choice based on the fact that I was trying to have a last name with the same letter at the beginning and I felt like they went together well.

Where are you from?

I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Tell me about your tattoos. How many do you have and where/what are they?

I have six tattoos. One under each armpit, my neck, my knuckles and dingers, my toes, and my right sleeve. The armpit tattoos are roses. My neck tattoo shows a sabre tooth tiger skull on the back surrounded by a green background, and on the front (thus far) it consists of a death's head moth tattoo with roses. There will be additions to add to my neck later on but they will include more roses, a bee and honeycomb, a tarantula, mushrooms, moss, and nature. My sleeve is a nature sleeve with insects like deaths head moth, a darkling beetle, and also a snake, skull and roses. My knuckles read, "Hopeless Romantic", and on my fingers I have other things that mean something to me, (try to figure them out), my toes read, "Live Love."

Which tattoo would you say hurt the most?

None of my tattoos hurt really. I am a bit of a freak of nature. I don't feel pain as much as most people do.

What first got you interested in video games?

My parents got me into retro games as well as PC gaming, and my love for gaming developed from there. What really had me hooked was the Silent Hill Series.

What are some of you favorite video games of all time?

Silent Hill, Alien Isolation, Fallout Series, The Last Of Us, Call Of Duty, Skyrim, Bioshock, Rainbow Six Siege, GTA V, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Playing anything right now?

I have been working 80+ hours a week (I run my own business), so I haven't had time to game since January, but I do have over 150 games, and am going to get back into gaming and streaming once the summer comes to an end (work will slow down then).

Is there an upcoming game you are looking forward to playing?

I am most definitely looking forward to the game called "Death Stranding" and also "The Last Of Us 2."

What are your thoughts on cosplay?

I love Cosplay. I am actually currently designing my first cosplay and (hoped) to wear it at Fan Expo 2020. Poison Ivy.

A lot of gamers have said they think the Call of Duty franchise has gotten stale. Which game is your favorite in the series, and do you agree with them?

I feel like the Call Of Duty Series was going in the wrong direction with the futuristic stuff but I do like the Call Of Duty Black Ops 4, as well as the WWII. My favorite however is still Black Ops 2.

Remakes of successful older games seem to be all the rage these days. Do you think they should do a Silent Hill remake or leave it alone?

I think they should leave Silent Hill alone, but just make additions.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of video games?

Other hobbies of mine outside of video games include; I absolutely love nature and the outdoors so things like hiking, travelling, camping, etc - are my favorite types of hobbies. I also enjoy photography, watching film/TV, listening to music, caring for people's animals as well as spending time with my own.

Tell me something about yourself that nobody knows or would find surprising.

I have Narcolepsy.

SuicideGirl Gamer of the Month: Ratt

Why did you choose the name "Ratt"?

My real name is Catalina. When I was in high school, my friends started to calling me Rattalina because of the combination of Rat plus Catalina. This because they saw me like a "rat kid" (in a good way) since I was spending a lot of time playing League of Legends. I liked it because I felt identified with the concept, as I also have rodent-like behavior sometimes haha. For example my herbivore diet or how I sneak out when I need to. I think they're lovely animals. I don't give them a negative connotation as some people do. So I kept the "Rattalina" nickname on internet and IRL, and for SuicdeGirls I choose "Ratt" for short.

Where are you from?

I'm from Valparaíso, a unique and beautiful port-city in Chile.

What first got you interested in video games?

I come from a family full of gamers, haha. As soon as I had the awareness and motor skills to understand video games is when I became interested in them, so since I was about four or five years old. It all started with my grandma's SNES. She had Super Mario All Stars and the DK Country ROMs, and I could spend the entire day playing them.

Also, almost all my cousins and their parents had PC's, and I used to watch them play Diablo together and other strategy or simulation games like Stronghold or The Sims. The older ones were in charge of  distributing and installing video games on the computers to their younger cousins. Of course I couldn't play the same games as them since I was so young, but they let me have a compilation full of arcades so I became a fan of simulators such as MAME and PJ64 which I played A LOT when I was a child.

What are some of your favorite games?

I will always have a special place in my heart for Mario Brothers games. I got obsessed with them in my childhood and for many years they brought together the family for me. It was hours of competing with my cousins in Super Mario Party and Mario Kart, and even more hours discovering the innumerable stages of Super Mario World, SMB 3, SM 64, and so on.

Talking about more modern games, I just love the God of War franchise. I'm a fan of ancient mythology and the story and adventures of Kratos amazes me, along with the perfect combination in gameplay of action and fighting with thinking and puzzle solving. The icing on the cake is the beautiful soundtrack and graphics that makes them some of my favorite video games.

Playing anything right now?

League of Legends as always, haha. But I'm also discovering some AMAZING games that I've never tried before, such as Skyrim being the most remarkable. The quality of that game is just over the top.

Who is your favorite champion to play from League of Legends?

I would say Ahri is one of my best champs and she works in almost every meta, at least on solo queue. Plus I just really like her as character too, so I really enjoy playing with her.

Are you into cosplay?

Yes! But I'm not a professional cosplayer or anything. I just had an opportunity to make two costumes so far.

What are some characters you have cosplayed?

KDA Kai'sa and Katarina, both from League of Legends.

Any plans for future cosplays?

I've been thinking about it a lot recently, and I really really want to keep doing cosplay. Especially ero-cosplay. But nothing well planned as of yet.

Tell me a little bit about the different tattoos that you have?

My first tattoo was a Tarot card, "The wheel of fortune," because I feel related to. My favorite tattoos are on my left arm; there's a big Ryuk, one of my favorite characters from Death Note. I like the fact that all the whole story basically started just because he was bored. I feel like it is a demonstration of how insignificant we are as human beings and how easily we can be corrupted by power. On my forearm I have a heart with my hand and a cat paw holded. It's a representation of the bond between me and Rufián, my cat partner, at the same time it stands for my respect to animals and the love we should show to them through vegan lifestyle.

How long have you been a vegan?

I cut back on meat in October, 2016. Then when I did more research, I went vegan in February of 2017 until today.

What are some of your favorite vegan meals?

A well done seitan steak will always be my first choice. I also really like scrambled tofu, and all kind of vegan desserts. I think vegan sweets are much better than omni-ones because they’re lighter, you can feel the real flavor of ingredients instead of only dairy-fat-taste and sugar haha.

How long have you been a SuicideGirl and what first got you interested in the site/community?

I became SG at the end of 2019, when my debut set “Flowers in the Chamber” went SOTD (set of the day) in December. I first became interested when I was much younger, at the age of 15-16. I discovered the company through some Chilean models like Aymi and Violetrose, who I admired a lot. I’ve always been into the search of freedom of female bodies and sexuality, and I felt that SG was a expression of that, combined with a original and gorgeous aesthetic which captivated me.

Q&A Interview with Honey Hiromi

Where are you from?

I am from Thailand.

How long have you been cosplaying?

I've been cosplaying for a year and a half.

How did you first become interested in cosplaying?

I just thought to myself one day that it would be so cool to be a character you like and then I found out that cosplay was a thing so I couldn't say no to not cosplaying!

What are some characters you have cosplayed?

I don't remember all of the characters that I've done but so far I've cosplayed Nico Yazawa, Arcade Ahri, KDA Akali, Rem, Arcade Riven, Hanako Kun, Zenitsu and sooooo many more!

Any future plans for cosplays?

I'm really trying to get my Classic Akali cosplay out there one day.

Favorite movie? Video game? TV show? Band?

My favorite movies are probably Mamma Mia and Disney's Descendants. Video game would of course be League Of Legends since I play it everyday. TV show right now more like Netflix series and it's Trailer Park Boysssss. Last but not the least my favorite band... not sure do groups count? I LOVE TWICE but I got into singing and songs all thanks to ABBA and Queen!

What LoL champions do you enjoy playing as most? Which do you hate laning against?

I always change champions that I enjoy playing but right now I'm kinda an Akali main. I need some action in my life! Hate: Yasuo and Zed, mostly assassins. I'm horrible against them.

What is the cosplay community like in Thailand? Are there many conventions to attend? Which is the biggest?

The cosplay community here isn't bad at all. People are nice but of course there are bad sides, too. Too many drama people can be very dramatic. There are quite a lot of cons here. The biggest is probably Jfest, TGS and Thailand Comic Con.

Are your cosplays commissioned or homemade?

It depends on my budget and whether I can do it myself or not. My Harley Quinn one was handmade!

What's been the most fun part about getting deeper into the hobby for you?

The best part is being able to be confident in something I do and meet new friends without knowing that the friend would become your BFF!

What are some of your hobbies outside of cosplay?

My other hobbies are drawing, singing, dancing and of course I love gaming.

Q&A Interview with Angel Kaoru

Where are you from?

Ecuador.

How long have you been cosplaying?

13 years.

How did you first become interested in cosplaying?

I have loved wearing costumes and Halloween since I was little. I've also loved anime for a long time as well. Cosplaying was just an excuse to put a lot of costumes all the time whether or not it was Halloween.

What are some characters you have cosplayed?

Bayonetta 1 and 2, Gamora, Black Widow, Mystique, Mt Lady, Jessica Rabbit, Poison Ivy, Mileena (MK), Dark Magician Girl, and Joker.

Any future plans for cosplays?

Totally! One of my dream cosplays is Tyrande from World of Warcraft. I'll also be doing more Marvel superheroes and villains.

Favorite movie? Video game? TV show? Band?

I love animated movies. My favorite is Inside Out. Favorite video games are Bayonetta and Super Smash Bros. Favorite TV show is How I Met Your Mother. And favorite band is Big Bang.

What are some of your hobbies outside of cosplay?

Photography, photo editing, and music. I own a photo business in my country so most of my cosplay photos are produced by me and a co-worker. I'm still trying to come back to music. I was raised with music so I hope I can come back soon.

You mentioned you were a big anime fan. What are some of your favorites in that regard?

Totally! I love shonen and action anime like Hunter X Hunter; that's one of my favorites. Also Yu Yu Hakusho. Although I also love crazy and bizarre anime like Gurren Lagann, Darling in the Franxx, and FLCL. If you noticed, most of them are from the same studio creator, Gainax and Trigger.

Are you playing any video games currently? If so, which ones?

Yes. Actually I'm playing Bayonetta 1 and Mortal Kombat 11.

What would you say is the most difficult part about being a cosplayer?

Maybe the lack of support in some countries like mine. It's so hard to get a sponsor or someone interested in your job. You are rarely promoted. But you also need that financial support to make cosplays so it's hard sometimes.
